About this spot
The Forårsferejen and Dagpåfugleøjen shelters are located at Rågårdshus campsite, where the sun shines through both deciduous and coniferous forests. This shelter site emphasizes easy accessibility for people with physical disabilities. The two shelters are slightly larger than the 2-3 person shelters also found in the forest, to provide more room for maneuvering and any assistive devices. The site has 3 benches and a picnic table set, one bench of which is halved so that a wheelchair user can sit at the table. The two shelters share a common campfire site, surrounded by a raised fire ring that allows moving close to the grill grate without being hit by sparks or flames. You may gather firewood from the forest floor or bring your own firewood to the site. You may stay a maximum of two nights at a small campsite. Remember to extinguish the fire before leaving the campsite and take your trash out of the forest! To reach the shelter site, you can drive into the forest from Gl. Frederiksborgvej and park at Naturstyrelsen’s parking lot at Rågårdshus. From there, it is approximately 250 m to the shelter site. Following the 1.5-meter wide gravel path, you will first pass a nearby campfire hut, then a disabled-friendly toilet, and finally the shelter site. The two shelters must be booked together.
