About this spot

Plovmandshøj Plantation was established after World War II, and thus it still contains the first generation of trees. The forest mainly consists of Norway spruce, European silver fir, and Scots pine, but tree species such as rowan, elder, hawthorn, and oak can also be found in the area northeast of Blåmandshøj. Over the next 10-20 years, this small area will be designated as a semi-natural forest, creating more natural forest growth instead of the otherwise very demarcated plots. The area in general is formerly inland dune and heathland, and therefore a number of interesting heath and dune plants can be found in the forest, including common heather, lingonberry, heath bedstraw, sand sedge, and various lichens. Furthermore, there is a lot of moss, which provides a soft surface for overnight guests in the forest. Plovmandshøj Plantation is located north of Aars. The parking lot is found off Doverhøjvej.
