The shelter site at Jordbassinerne near Assens is part of the Blå Støttepunkter (Blue Support Points) shelter concept, where you can stay overnight in new, modern, coastal shelters all around Funen. A fifth person can lie on the floor in the other half of the shelter. The shelter has many doors, hatches, and windows, so in good weather, you can get plenty of light and fresh air. In bad weather, the shelter can be almost completely closed off. However, there is one opening that cannot be closed. It is a requirement that a shelter must have at least one permanent opening. About the area: Jordbassinerne is a 40 ha natural gem right next to Assens town. The area was reclaimed so that the former Assens Sukkerfabrik could deposit the soil that adhered to sugar beets upon delivery. The sugar factory existed from 1884 to 2006, and during that time, so much soil was washed from sugar beets that the terrain today lies approximately 10 meters above sea level.
